A Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) is a specialty trained counselor who underwent a rigorous training program for specific therapies related to treating the many forms of sexual addiction. CSAT training is led by the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals. CSAT’s have a minimum master’s level degree in psychology or related field and have at least five years of experience working in mental health.
CSAT Counselors are trained to:
- Perform evaluations to determine the severity and type of sexual dependence.
- Discover the underlying causes of the addiction such as sexual trauma history, family of origin issues, and other addiction-related struggles.
- Oversee specific therapies including guided tasks in individual counseling sessions, group sessions, or both.
