Personal Growth: Quotes and Scriptures to Inspire You

Sarah M. Farrell

Personal Development

A brand new year is ushering in changes. This is a time when people typically evaluate where they are currently, where they would like to be at the end of the year, and where they would like to be in the future. In presenting this conglomeration of quotes and Bible verses, my hope is that you will find little pieces of wisdom to ponder. I pray that they help you to consider your life as a snippet in the greater picture of eternity, in which you were created to glorify God—and to enjoy doing so. My hope is that you may be blessed in the new year.

Some of My Favorite Quotes

You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream. ~ C.S. Lewis

To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing. ~ Martin Luther

Faith is a deliberate confidence in the character of God, whose ways you may not understand at the time. ~ Oswald Chambers

Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God. ~ Corrie Ten Boom

Faith is the living, daring confidence in God’s grace, so sure and certain that a man could stake his life on it a thousand times. ~ Martin Luther

Initially, when I first became a Christian and got into ministry, my thought was that God existed to make my life better and to take me to Heaven. Now I realize that it is not about me at all. It is all about God… ~ Max Lucado

When a train goes through a tunnel and it gets dark, you don’t throw away the ticket and jump off. You sit still and trust the engineer. ~ Corrie Ten Boom

He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep, to gain what he cannot lose. ~ Jim Elliot

It is the characteristic excellence of the strong man that he can bring momentous issues to the fore and make a decision about them. The weak are always forced to decide between alternatives they have not chosen themselves. ~ Dietrich Bonhoeffer

The greatest legacy one can pass on to one’s children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one’s life, but rather a legacy of character and faith. ~ Billy Graham

You were made by God and for God, and until you understand that, life will never make sense. ~ Rick Warren

Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strength. ~ Charles Spurgeon

Bible Verses to Inspire You

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. ~ James 1:2-4

He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? ~ Micah 6:8

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. ~ Hebrews 12:1-2

Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. ~ Philippians 4:11-13

Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him. ~ John 6:27

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. ~ Romans 12:2

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. ~ Philippians 4:8

…being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. ~ Philippians 1:6

…but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen. ~ 2 Peter 3:18
