About

People will always let us down, whether intentionally or not. The Lord will not. He welcomes us to offer our burdens to Him, and He gives us the grace to bear those burdens in His strength. Using a combination of professional training, personal experience, and faith in God and His Word, I offer therapy for teens, adult individuals, and couples. Whether you’re dealing with relationship issues, trauma or PTSD, anxiety, depression, work challenges, or other concerns, it would be my privilege to walk with you toward a place of healing and recovery.

My Goal as a Christian Counselor

One of my goals as your counselor is for you to gain insight into yourself and how you came to be who you are today. My aim is to help you achieve healing from your pain so you can be free to grow and develop into who you truly are, without shame. My hope is to provide you with a safe space where you can process, feel, and open doors you might be afraid to open all alone, as you’re ready.

What I Offer in Christian Counseling

I begin each session with a deep breath with my clients, and look them eye-to-eye. I ask how I can be of help today and let them go where they feel led. I listen and slow them down when they seem to rush. I want to give them the time and space to feel as they share. Clients can expect that they will be attended to well. I will let them know what it is like to be in a therapeutic relationship with them. This will be helpful as we work through any issues they are having in relationship.

My Approach to Christian Counseling

A distinctively Christian approach allows for the benefit of both client and counselor to invite the Holy Spirit to the session. The Word of God is powerful, mighty, and can provide a real foothold and solid ground when there is question or difficulty. Knowing that the Lord is with us changes the dynamic in a mighty way that is not dependent on a brick and mortar church. Christian counseling can provide the hope that many cannot conjure up on their own.

Biography

Qualifications & Experience

I hold a Master’s in Counseling Psychology (MACP) from The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology, a Master’s in Human Resources in Education (HRE) from Boston University, and a Master’s in Military Science (MS) from Command and General Staff College (CGSC). I also have Level Two Gottman Institute training for couples therapy and Lay Counseling II training from the Allender Center.

My Call to Christian Counseling

Being able to experience my own therapy and healing gave me the desire to help others through the understanding and care I received. Healing happens in community and through relationship, and it is shared there as well. The benefit of the therapeutic process is felt throughout community and reverberates. I want to be a part of that dynamic.

More About Me/On a Personal Note

I have four daughters and love to spend time outdoors. I love to hike and have hiked many miles, including the Arizona Scenic Trail twice, and many hikes in the Pacific Northwest. I love to run and have run three marathons. I also enjoy biking and have biked at least ten century (100 mile) rides.

Transitions

I have worked extensively with clients experiencing life transitions, including transitions from jobs, relationships, station in life, moving, etc. I help clients reconnect with themselves after a time when they may have put themselves aside. I encourage and provide space for clients to explore their identity, fears, hopes, and dreams.

PTSD

Building the therapeutic alliance is absolutely critical for clients with PTSD. The gentle, safe exploration of the trauma will stand on that foundation. It is in the trauma that the most damaging messages to the self embed, and we will work together to dislodge them, kindly. We will discuss how life is going now, what impact the past trauma is having on the present, and how to work through the difficulty while holding on to yourself. We will work on calming techniques to assist in daily life and in triggering situations.

As a 20-year military veteran and 9/11 Pentagon survivor, I understand the complexities of PTSD and its various ramifications. I consider it a great honor to work with individuals who are struggling to cope with traumatic experiences or identify and overcome symptoms of post-traumatic stress.

Grief and Loss

I will work with you to create a safe environment to disclose your story of grief and loss, providing unconditional positive regard and compassionate care. Together we will walk through the grief and the stories and experiences associated with it. We will talk about grief as a process, acknowledging that grief is a part of the cycle of life and that its pain ebbs and flows. We will take the journey together and find ways to feel the grief and come out of it with care and kindness every time.

Relationship Issues

Relationships can bring us the most joy and the most pain. We are often hurt in relationship, and this can cause us to develop unhealthy ways of relating to others, stifling our capacity to connect with ourselves and others. I look forward to building a working relationship with you and exploring the difficulties you face in relationship together.

Professional Development

There are many ways to live this life, and working is generally a part of that path. I look forward to learning the strengths, talents, passions, and skills that come easily to you as we work to hone your direction(s) professionally and personally as you wish.
